Paul LaRiviere

Paul is a printmaker who has extensive experience working with etching, woodblock, linocut, lithography, and monoprint media. He graduated from California State University at Los Angeles with a master’s degree in fine art and psychology in June 1983. He became a registered art therapist with the American Art Therapy Association.

He retired from the California Department of Corrections in 2008 and lives in Morro Bay with his husband, Jim Lipsett and cat, Jewel.

Paul was the art curator for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance of San Luis Obispo from 2004 through 2014. As such, he has currated numerous shows by local GLBT artists at the GALA office in that 10-year period. Paul has been an active member of the Central Coast Printmakers associated with the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art since 1986.

“I am currently interested in working in a reductive printing process with various media including lino-cuts and wood blocks in a series form. The paper used in printmaking lends itself beautifully to folding, cutting and manipulating to make interesting shapes. I enjoy playing with the prints in a three-dimensional format. The new structures become books to read in a different way.” – Paul
