Mary Gail Stablein
California-based artist, Mary Gail Stablein, graduated with honors from Arizona State University where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking and Art History. After graduation she began a freelance commission business by creating murals, portraits, and camera-ready art for a variety of customers.
In 1999 she earned a Master of Arts in Education from Sonoma State University. After a twenty-five year career in public education, she retired as a high school principal and now teaches for Sonoma State University in the College of Education, Counseling, and Ethnic Studies.
She has exhibited work in numerous juried, curated, group, and solo shows in Arizona, California, and throughout the Midwest. She was selected to exhibit her work at Studios on the Park in Paso Robles (Our Central Coast 2023) and at the Central Coast Watercolor Society Show, Aquarius 2025.
Mary Gail moved to the Central Coast in 2021 from Sonoma County and has enjoyed being the treasurer for the Morro Bay Art Association. She shows her work regularly at Art Center Morro Bay. She has had a one-woman Art Show at The Refinery in San Luis Obispo, and participated in Art After Dark. Mary Gail is a member of the Morro Bay Art Association, Central Coast Watercolor Society, and Central Coast Printmakers.
Mary Gail’s work explores many mediums, such as graphite, ink, acrylic, watercolor, and recently batik and gold leaf. Influence by artists such as Sargent, Van Gogh and Degas are evident in her work as her themes revolve around nature. She is currently available for commissions.
