Cheryl Barton-Petrie
I draw inspiration from old buildings, landscapes and animals, often using images from my travels in Greece, Zimbabwe and many other places. My muses are the beauty of nature and ancient history along with their mysteries, which evoke a sense of nostalgia.
I learned to etch at an art school in Greece in 1981, falling in love with the many techniques and possibilities of printmaking. I’ve got degrees in fine art, art history and museum studies, and worked for several high-profile museums including the Norton Simon Museum and SFMOMA. I taught and wrote courses on art history for the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for 20 years and have written on art for various magazines.
On the Central Coast, I’ve exhibited with CCP at SLOMA, Art Central, Morro Bay Art Association, Studios on the Park, and solo at SLOMA, the AG Library, and Kennedy Health Clubs. I am also a gallery resident artist at Art Central.
